Fashion Design Camp Expands to NYC, LA Markets

PORTLAND, OR, March 10, 2015 – Well-known Portland retailer Tacee Webb and her daughter Palace George are expanding their unique brand of summer camp experience from the Northwest to the country’s two largest markets. 

 “We’re thrilled to be offering FDC to young girls and boys in LA and New York this summer,” Webb said of this popular week-long, hands-on workshop she and her daughter founded in Portland nine years ago and then expanded to the Seattle area. “We empower these young people into making their own clothing from concept to creation, with plenty of inspiration and playful experimentation along the way.”

 Webb noted that summer 2015 at FDC also marks the launch of the much anticipated Teen-4-Teen clothing line to benefit suicide prevention groups, as well as organizations dedicated to ending teen homelessness and supporting mental health among young people. “These are all causes that are close to our hearts,” she explained.

Building creative self-expression

FDC programming, firmly rooted in the DIY spirit that Webb has been championing for 15 years, is geared to children who hope to someday be fashion designers, stylists, or own a retail or online fashion store. Campers create their own clothing line complete with a name and label, and then move onto design and production of the garments.  Counselors are local experienced designers and sewing instructors, teaching younger and future designers.

At the conclusion of the camp sessions, the children model their creations at a finale fashion show. This year, seven young designers selected by their peers at each camp will participate in the first All Camps Finale Fashion Show on August 29th in Portland. 

Webb has owned and operated many NW clothing stores over her 20 year career in apparel including Seaplane  and Portland Design Collective which she closed in 2013. Webb founded Red Light Clothing Exchange in Portland and Seattle and is owner of New American Retail, a consultant to expanding apparel brands. She is also the Director or Business Development at Axiom Custom, a state-of-the art fabricator who clients include the world's best fashion brands.  Daughter Palace, who co-owned her first clothing store with her mother at age 10 and who is now 17, will be serving as a counselor this summer, as will many other past campers. Many of these young people also organize and support the growth of the enterprise by serving on FDC’s recently formed Board of Directors.
